Motivation

I think I may be growing up…usually I get motivated to complete tasks when the “now or never” hour hits…I actually am getting on task ahead of time…by about 10 minutes…gotta start somewhere!

For the sake of…

the Gospel.  This should be our only motivation.  Each action and decision of our day must have as its chief end the promotion of, equipping for, transmission of and/or creation of opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus.  I am convicted to begin the evaluation of my life and its activities by this rule and also the evaluation of others in the same fashion.  When someone wants to discuss the various things pastors and Christians in general like to squawk about and create divisions over, I now decide to preface any with this question:  “When is the last time you shared the Gospel?”  If they have not or do not been active in their faith, their comments and perspective on Christian life and thought are hollow intellectual rhetoric devoid of the true nature of Christ who came to seek and save.  I pray I would be held to this same standard; the time for mediocrity and complacency are gone.  Imitate Christ.

Taking a moment for reflection and a little “juice”…  Just as “a life unexamined is not worth living”, a day can have no value if it is allowed to shuffle itself off into history without a critical eye turned upon it.  Take a break, not to rest from the day’s endeavors, but to decide if you are actually making the most of it.  So far today…not so much…time to shift gears…

“If you are having problems in your life and you don’t seek the answer in God, you don’t really want to solve your problems.  The meaning of life is found in the One who created it.”

Now I Know

It is funny how experience imbues knowledge upon you.  What can’t be learned or explained in a thousand year, can be clearly perceived in a moment.  Yet how does one relate empirical information in a format that carries the weight of having “been there” and “done that”?  Is it possible to open the lines of empathy for the sake of transmitting wisdom?

a long time has passed since my last post…not that anyone has noticed…

again i ponder the point of blogs…yet feel compelled to write one myself…

could a thought i have be read by someone, sometime and will they find it significant?

maybe…maybe not…

thought for the day…

why do we want justice for others and mercy for ourselves?  are we that selfish?

Peace

Why the bias agianst Mizzou Basketball? 6-3 ok, but a win over the Boilermakers and close losses against current No. 11 Michigan State, Arkansas and Cal (all who at least get mentioned in the AP and USA Today polls) and no recognition? Feels about like Mizzou football getting shafted to the Cotton Bowl with …. unranked Arkansas?!!??! Every other top 10 ranked team is playing at least #13 or higher. But whatever, #6 is still respectable and after the spank we put on the ‘backs, a team in the over glorified SEC, Mizzou will walk with heads high, broad shoulders and a team to be reckoned with next year. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. We beat Kansas. That’s almost as good as a National Title.

I ran across a book the other day, 2008: God’s Final Witness, by Ronald Weinland. You can download it for free in PDF format from http://www.the-end.com/2008GodsFinalWitness. Apparently, this guy is the one of the two prophets who will be killed in the streets of Jerusalem and resurrected three days later. Oh, and the world will end in 2012. I hate to be the skeptic but, since the world has “ended” at least 88 times since I was born, according to various people as documented at http://www.bible.ca/pre-date-setters.htm, and 209 times since Jesus’ birth; I feel precedent has been set for a little skepticisms. However, if Ronnie does bite it in the streets, and comes back to life three day later…don’t worry about that 30 year mortgage anymore….

Determination

Determination – the quality of being devoted in full strength and concentrated attention to do or achieve something.

My definition – spitting out the teeth and blood, brushing off the dust, jamming your dislocated shoulder back in place and lining up for the next play.

I just watched part of “What About Bob?” yesterday and a thought struck me about the whole “Baby Steps” thing.  I realize that it was just something made up for the movie, but I think there is a real principle in there that we can apply.  To identify the immediate  action that needs to be undertaken to achieve a specific goal; and then to tackle that single action until it is completed, not getting overwhelmed with the true enormity of a job, focusing on the here and the now.  Baby Steps.  Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm MMMMMM!

Waves of resolve

Does anyone else suffer from waves of resolve? I realize I haven’t blogged since May; almost six months. Like the ebb and flow of the tides, cresting with determination and drive and falling to apathy and disinterest. I find a lack of ability to identify the “lunar pull” that causes my wavering. I guess I have something to pray about…

The Trap of Mediocrity

Have you ever felt yourself to be stuck in the same?  I don’t specifically mean the proverbial “rut”, but more in the sense of the “frog in the well (#20)” riddle, but instead of sliding back 2 feet for my 3 feet of effort, I’m sliding back 2-7/8ths.  Of course, with this kind of out look, such a mediocre return, it become increasingly difficult to continue the 3 foot effort.  The very idea of acheiving little or no advancing, could trouble someone to not even attempt the next jump.

Yet, we soilder on.  As people, we desire tangible results.  As Christians, we must have faith that God is at work.  And that His work, though we may never see the fruit this side of eternity, involves all things working together for good for those who love Him.  “Those who love Him” includes the people who are obedient to God, carrying out His will, and yet do not realize exactly what God is doing.

So jump like your life depends on it, if you got what you wanted in this life, you couldn’t take it with you anyway.

When stuff bombs

The hardest thing to do sometimes is move on when stuff bombs.  I doesn’t matter how much you plan, or how well you have tried to assure success, sometime stuff just bombs.  The best thing to do is suck it up and take it like a man, figure out why it failed, know that it failed for a reason (yes Virginia, God is in control of our failures, but there still is no Santa Claus), and soilder on.  But this is, of course, easy to say and easier to type than it is to do.

Enough with the boo hoo’s and the woe is me’s, time for the suck it up part.

Rockaround, fools, Rockaround.
